Choose a musical theme for your opening, transitions between segments or a subtle background beneath a story. Consider the sound of the presenter's voice and the mood of the episode.

Choose intros and backgrounds separately

A distinctive melody can work well in a short introduction but distract during a conversation. For longer background use, try a more restrained track and listen to it at a low level alongside the voice.

Keep a recognisable musical identity

You can use the same theme at the beginning and end of episodes, adjusting the excerpt length and fade. Listen to different sections before choosing: the arrangement may become much busier as the track develops.
